Timing is everything

They say “timing is everything” …I’m not sure who “they” are, but I think they are right.  Timing is everything.  It is…but sometimes do you feel like you are in another time zone?  Have you ever felt like you are ahead in your heart in a situation or a longing or desire or a need and the clock hasn’t quite caught up yet?  The same group of ‘they’ that says ‘timing is everything’ are also the same mysterious group of ‘they’ that says ‘hindsight is 20/20.  Because it is.  Seeing up close …in the moment…not clear…seeing looking back?  Perfect clarity.  I know this because I’ve lived it over and over…man I wish I would remember but my heart forgets when I’m to close up and in another time zone in my heart.
Have you been here?  I mean really been in that place where you’ve been given a vision or a hope for something to change or move..for something to breathe or speak or begin…or even end?  You can feel it and see it and it feels like now is the time and yet there is a lull…and it starts to become blurry, aching, restless, waning…tired.
I’m a dreamer..I see things, the Lord gives me really vivid dreams, He gives me visions and I see things in my heart..(stay with me, no I’m not psychic).  Here’s the thing – I do believe the Lord show our hearts pieces of things..I do believe He gradually spoon-feeds us like little babes learning to eat solids what He longs for us to be nourished by, what He longs for us to desire, what He longs for us to do and be and see but I also think He gives us time to be ready for it.   The visions are there to show us what will and can be…when we are ready.
Picture this – have you ever fed an infant beginner solid foods?  You don’t start off by cramming broccoli, cauliflower and cruciferous veggies down their throats. Generally the foods we start with are soft bananas, sweet peas, sweet potatoes…the texture is soft, the taste is sweet and it’s palpable.  Gradually you introduce new foods over the course of time adding in new textures and flavor profiles gently.  Part of this helps develop maturity and palate…it opens them up to a banquet of foods…but they don’t have to try it all at once and they couldnt even if they had wanted to.  Today I have twin 12 year olds, a 10 year old and a 7 year old and all of them started out on soft sweet peas and sweet potatoes but today, they will eat brussel sprouts and eggplant ..it took time but they got there.
So why am I telling you about cruciferous vegetables and how it relates to timing?  Well, heres the thing…I think it’s a lot like the way God introduces the possibilities to our hearts and over time unfolds a banquet of delight as we are ready.  I think a lot of time we “think” we are ready to digest, process and break down certain things in our lives whether it be opportunities, relationships, changes, healing, movement etc…but perhaps we are not.  We think by accessing certain things ‘right now’ having them at our finger tips ‘now’ that somehow we will be better or content…but when I think back to my little chunky faced babies they could have not swallowed that cauliflower back then without choking because they weren’t ready…their teeth weren’t developed enough to break it down, their gag reflexes might have caused them to reject it and cause further problems…they weren’t ready.  And some times this is us…well, more often then not.  We think we are farther along in our palate than we are but God knows the places that need to be developed.  He knows that to much to soon is not the way to victory or redemption.  He knows that slow and steady truly wins the race when it comes to our hearts.  He knows that the slow gentle feeding of our souls is what leads to hearty, healthy appetites to digest all that our bodies need.
This concept of the slow and gentle feeding from Gods bountiful feast is what keeps me content with todays manna.  Today’s manna is for today’s needs, today’s learning, today’s growth and prepares me for the building of tomorrow.  So if this is you…if you are a dreamer and a seer who feels on the cusp of something that has been birthed in your heart and you aren’t quite there yet…remember you are gently being fed what you need. Take time absorbing the nutrients you are being given today and you will be strong enough to take in whatever comes next in due season.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.9
