Manna…what you Need

Wandering in a foreign land. Far from home. Home wasn’t ideal but it was the only home they had known for 200 years and at least there was food…a place to lay their head. Every day was the same, they knew what to expect, hard work…but at least there was food. Mistreatment… but at least there was a place to lay their heads. Sometimes the consistency of what is known or expected is comforting even in captivity.

But this place…this new place – the unknown, barren, dry, empty, foreign desert…well this wasn’t what they signed up for. Carrying a few belongings while schlepphing children in tow they wandered…tired, hungry, feet aching, desparate, frightened of what might be and hopeful for what could be.

Who would provide? Who would feed them? Who would give them rest from their frail frames and weary tired souls? Where would “it” come from…this help…this food…this rest…this freedom….And then there it was, Manna…it had come….every morning..like morning dew these sweet morsels of hope befell their way…”Manna” …which literally means “what is it?” Aside from the fact that they simply didnt know what to call “it” for “it” had never been seen nor tasted before but to take it a step further…perhaps its meaning is partially because what “it” is that each person needed for that day was different…Manna also known as ‘bread of heaven’ was their individual and personal daily provision…all that they needed for each day…whatever “it” was. Some gathered more….some gathered less and no one begged for bread or was in want for they had been provided the needs of today. To feed their bellies…to feed their souls…to ease their fears and in this place they depended on Him…bread giver, life giver, peace giver, hope giver…

Manna….what is it? What is it you need – today? Not want…need… need. Do you find yourself in a familiar circumstance? In a position where you are in unfamiliar territory…perhaps you feel as though you are wandering….barren…empty…thirsty…fearful…longing? Manna…”what is it” that you need today? Not yesterday’s needs…not tomorrow’s needs but today’s needs…peace? comfort? strength? courage? Though you may not lack for food physically your greatest intangible desire quite possibly is the unseen…spiritual food…nourishment…today’s nourishment…the food that sustains through the everyday, through uncertainty, heartache, suffering, adversity, long winding roads less travelled…Manna…daily provision provided by the Sustainer of our life breath…Jesus.

In Christ we are given the hope of being full and lacking nothing as we feast on His word, truth and promise….He is the endless basket of loaves..the well that never runs dry – He is our daily Manna..that which we need to sustain us through – today.

Total dependence

John 6:32-35 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
